Holiday season is here and I know so many of you are packing your bags -beaches, poolside vibes, city breaks, all of it. And one of the questions I get asked most this time of year is all about holiday braid care tips: "Promise, can I really keep my braids looking good on holiday?"

Yes, love. Absolutely yes.

Here's the thing; braids are honestly one of the best styles you can travel with. No heat, no fuss, no standing in a hotel bathroom for an hour trying to do your hair. You wake up, you look fabulous, you go. That's the beauty of it.

And yes, you can swim. Sea, pool, whatever. Just do it right.

Here's what I tell every one of my clients before they jet off:

1. Rinse straight after swimming: Chlorine and salt water are not your braids' friends if you leave them sitting in it. As soon as you're out of the water, rinse your hair thoroughly with fresh clean water. It takes two minutes and makes a huge difference.

2. Dry them properly: Don't leave your braids soaking wet for hours, that's how you get that musty smell and frizz that won't quit. Gently squeeze the water out, then loosely plait them up or tie them back while they dry. Let them breathe.

3. Keep them moisturised: Sun, salt, and heat are drying. A light leave-in conditioner or a moisturising braid spray every couple of days will keep your braids happy and hydrated throughout the trip. Less is more, you don't want build-up, just a light refresh.

4. Protect them at night: Even on holiday, your satin scarf or bonnet comes with you. I know, I know but trust me. One night without it and you'll feel the difference in the morning.

Do those four things and your braids will still be looking gorgeous in every single holiday photo. Less stress, more fun, more fabulousness. That's exactly what a protective style is for.
